Quality in manufacturing is an important facet of our business. Without it, all aspects of the business suffer. Job cost, lead-time, customer satisfaction, all are victims of poor quality. Quality in customer service can mean the difference in a successful business and one that stagnates. It is a common misconception that quality control resides solely in measuring parts. Customer satisfaction is only achieved through accuracy in all phases of a job – order entry, manufacturing, packaging, shipping, and invoicing. Making the parts correctly is an important link in the chain, but if other areas are not processed properly the customer suffers and so does the business relationship. Wilschur Design & Manufacturing is dedicated to achieving total quality throughout all phases of our business by providing our customers with the accuracy they expect in every area.
Our inspection procedures rely on up front prevention rather than detection of defects after the product is produced. Final inspection, or screening lots for potential defects, is usually too late. In this instance, once a defect is found most or all of the manufacturing has already taken place. At Wilschur all areas of manufacturing receive 1st article approval and regular in-process verifications during the production runs to monitor and maintain acceptable quality levels. The inspection department has received a “Dimensional Measurement Accreditation” from Delco Electronics for measurement accuracy while involved in the EV1 Electric Car program for General Motors. All inspection tools are controlled by a calibration schedule in accordance with MIL-STD-45662 to maintain measurement accuracy.
Communication with the customer is another important part of our quality policy. All jobs are tracked through every manufacturing step by our barcode system. This system enables us to give our customers job status with “up to the minute” accuracy. Building lasting business relationships through open communication is vital to providing our customers with quality service. |
